Green Energy

The introduction of the Climate Change Levy and an increasing focus on reducing emissions and reliance on fossil fuels has lead to a growing interest in the use of sustainable energy sources.

If you are seeking to achieve environmental objectives through the purchase of renewables, ESPO can help you to procure supply solutions that will meet your requirements.

Alternative Fuels / Sustainability

ESPO is well paced to assist clients considering the use of 'alternative' fuels as part of a refuelling strategy aimed at reducing vehicle emissions and increasing sustainability. If you are considering or want to know more about the practicalities and benefits of using CNG, Autogas, Biodiesel etc. please contact us.

Autogas (LPG)

LPG, a gas in its natural state, is similar in its properties to fully vapourised petrol. It is stored in tanks or cylinders under light pressure in its liquified form. As it is already in a gaseous form when it enters the combustion chamber, LPG burns more efficiently than liquid fuels. It is this efficient burning which gives a dramatic reduction in emissions and makes LPG such an attractive option to conventional fuels. Other benefits include total elimination of smoke, virtual elimination of smell and it also contributes to much quieter and smoother running engines. Last, but by no means least, switching to LPG can cut fuel costs by up to 30%.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)

CNG offers a safe, environmentally responsible alternative to vehicles powered by conventional fuels. Due to its inherently clean properties, natural gas can reduce harmful air pollutants, significantly improving air quality. For the fleet manager, natural gas provides substantial operating benefits, and significant savings in running costs.

Biodiesel

Biodiesel oil can be made from any oliferous vegetation, such as rape, soyabean and cotton, as well as animal fats and waste cooking oils. It has many environmental advantages and the transition in technical terms (storage and engine compatibility) is simple. Biodiesel can be used instead of or in conjunction with petroleum diesel.

It currently costs more to produce biodiesel than diesel. However, it is understood that tax incentives are under consideration to make prices more attractive, and thereby stimulate both demand and production.

Electricity from Renewable Sources

The government has committed the UK to cutting its emissions and using energy generated from renewable (non fossil fuel) sources. So-called "green" energy, could be a major contributor to meeting these targets:

  • On-shore and off-shore wind
  • Hydro
  • Energy generated from waste e.g. from gas on landfill sites
  • Energy Crops
  • Combined Heat and Power Schemes
  • Solar Power

An increasing number of ESPO customers are turning to renewable sources for their electricity supply to help achieve environmental objectives. If you would like to know more about renewables, please contact us.
