Fuel Duty Increase (01/09/09)

In line with the Budget Statement made in April 2009 the government have increased road fuel duty by 2.0 pence per litre for unleaded petrol and diesel from 1st September 2009. The rate of duty applied to a litre of these fuels now amounts to 56.19 pence per litre.

Duty rates for non road fuels - gas oil and kerosene, also rose to 10.80 pence per litre, up by 0.38 pence.

The Chancellor had also previously announced that from 1st April 2010 and on the same date each year until 2013 road fuel duty rates will increase by one pence per litre above indexation.

Duty rates for Biodiesel and Bioethanol will continue on their existing levels of 20 pence per litre less that the rate of duty for diesel until 2010. At this point the current differential of 20 pence per litre will disappear and both Biodiesel and Bioethanol will be charged at the same rate as standard road fuels.

Duty on road fuel gases also increased on 1st September 2009, with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) rising to £0.2767/kg.

Climate Change Levy will be frozen for 2010-2011. Rates of the levy are:

Electricity 0.47p/KWh.

Gas 0.164 p/kwh
